The objectives of the Numbering, Naming & Addressing Working Group are to:
- Promote harmonisation of the different national numbering, naming, and addressing policies.
- Consider how technology developments will affect regulation.
- Investigate harmonised and transparent access to new services.
- Consider equal sharing conditions for numbering, naming and addressing resources for all providers within Europe.
- Monitor and consider the development of technologies and standards on numbering, naming and addressing issues, and the evolution of the portability concept.
- Co-ordinate CEPT activities and contributions for related work in ITU-T.
The work of the Numbering, Naming & Addressing Working Group is focused on:
- Harmonised European Short Codes (HESC), especially with regards on short code '116' and possible services behind it.
- Usage and harmonisation of Short Codes especially in mobile and fixed networks. Special attention is paid to numbering for services based on SMS, MMS and USSD, and international inbound roaming services.
- Usage of Premium Rate Numbers with special attention on prevention of possible Country Code misuse.
- Advice to NRAs on the topic of Voice over IP and services with nomadic nature.
- Next Generation Networks.
