1. Give guidance to the WG NNA on the implications of Next Generation Networks (NGN) including the internet for numbering, naming and addressing, starting with E.164 numbering;
2. Collect relevant information about NGN from various bodies, for example the ITU-T and ETSI, and cooperate with other ECC groups, such as PT2 TRIS;
3. To identify and analyse the changes taking place in the technology used for the provision of electronic communications services and in the market for services that are relevant to numbering, naming and addressing and to promote harmonisation of the different national policy issues relating to numbering, naming and addressing;
4. Seek, where relevant, contributions and assistance from the ERO and NRAs;
5. Develop and maintain its work programme in assistance with WG NNA;
6. Prepare draft Reports, Recommendations and/or Decisions as directed by the WG NNA as necessary;
7. Report to the WG NNA.
The work of the PT NGN commenced by collecting information about the NGN from various sources as well as to take a look at the future of E.164 numbering scheme. The WG NNA approved the ECC Report 87 The Future of E.164 Numbering Plans and Allocation Arrangements at its meeting on 20-21 September 2006 in Lisbon.
The WG NNA approved the ECC Report 126 Fixed-Mobile Convergence with survey of Numbering related issues at its meeting on 7-8 October 2008 in Ljubljana.
