ECC Newsletter October 2016
31 Oct 2016, 12:00The latest ECC Newsletter is now available.
This edition of our newsletter is addressing the increasing interest and demand for broadband connectivity (both voice and data) to passengers on board moving vehicles, including aircraft, ships and trains. These systems typically use satellite links to backhaul to the wider network. The satellite components of the systems are known as Earth Stations on Mobile Platforms (ESOMPs). Our first article explores some of the recent regulatory developments regarding ESOMPs. In a second article, we are focussing on the on-board component with an overview of the regulatory activities towards an improvement in access to mobile networks on board aircraft and passenger ships.
In the third article, we are coming back on a topic we covered in recent editions: frequency regulations for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) applications. Specifically, we report about the joint ETSI-CEPT Workshop, held on 29 September 2016 which discussed the regulatory changes and new opportunities for Broadband PPDR.
